Olympiada Chalkidiki Greece
Olympiada is a small seaside village on the eastern coast of the prefecture of Chalkidiki Greece. Its population is about 1000 residents that increases to more than 5000 during summer season. Olympiada is surrounded by rich natural environment. It combines both the deep blue of the sea and the majestic green of the mountain.
Green mountains and blue well organized beaches compose the ideal place for relaxing family vacations. It is the ideal destination for nature lovers, offering green trails for walking or biking, crystal clear waters for swimming, fishing and sailing, as well as archaeological sites to visit.
Olympiada is a picturesque village that provides complete tourist services to all kind of visitors. The youngers can enjoy the nightlife at beach bars. Olympiada is a great destination for inexperienced swimmers and children since its waters are shallow for quite some distance from the coast.
History
Olympiada was built in 1924, by refugees from Agia Kyriaki of M.Asia. It a place of grat historical importance since the area of Ancient Stagira is located 700 meters from the village.
It is said that king Kassandros exiled Olympiada, the mother of Alexander the Great (the village was named after her), to Ancient Stagira, while other say that she was exiled to Kapros island that is located across the village.
Kapros island (Kafkanas) is mentioned by the ancient geographer Stravonas. The port of the village is mentioned with the same name as well in some references. In the Ottoman period the port of Olympiada served as a lumber trading spot.

- From Thessaloniki, Olympiada is 90 km away via the new National Road Thessaloniki - Kavala (Egnatia Odos).
- From Kavala, the road distance is 99 km via Egnatia Odos.
- From Serres, Olympiada is 98 km away via the National Road of Serres - Drama, or alternatively 82 km away via Nigrita (country road).

From Greek-Bulgarian borders - 45 km to Serres
- Follow the E79 road (Promachonas - Serres) to Serres.

From Greek-Yugoslavian borders - 65 km to Thessaloniki
- Follow the E75 (PATHE) road to Thessaloniki.

- On the 66th kilometer of the national road take the exit to Stavros / Rentina and follow the road signs for Stavros - Olympiada.
From Thessaloniki - 92 km (via the old national road)
- Follow the old national road of Thessaloniki - Kavala (route without toll posts).
- After Rentina follow the road signs to Stavros - Olympiada.
From Serres - 98 km
- Follow the national road of Serres - Drama.
- Just after Nea Zichni take the right exit to Amfipoli
- After Amfipoli turn left on the intersection to Thessaloniki and follow the national road of Kavala - Thessaloniki.
- Turn right on the exit to Vrasna / Asprovalta and follow the road signs to Stavros - Olympiada.
From Serres - 82 km (via Nigrita)
- Follow the country road of Serres - Nigrita.
- At Nigrita turn left on the intersection to Therma / Asprovalta
- Follow the country road and across the folloing villages: Therma, Lagkadi, Skepasto, Limni, Arethousa, Vrasna.
- About 3 km after Vrasna turn right on the intersection to Stavros / Thessaloniki and follow the road signs to Stavros - Olympiada.
From Kavala - 99 km (via Egnatia Odos)
- Follow the national road of Kavala - Thessaloniki (Egnatia Odos).
- At the 78th kilometer of Egnatia Odos turn right on the exit to Vrasna / Asprovalta and follow the road signs to Stavros Olympiada.
From Stavros - 13.5 km
- Follow the country road of Stavros - Nea Chalkidiki heading east.
- Drive for about 12 km until you see the 1st (north) enterance of Olympiada and turn left.
- Alternatively keep driving straight for about 1.5 km more until you reach the main enterance of Olympiada and the turn left.
